Foundations of Design is a general class which exposes the students to the fundamentals of art. Emphasis is on the elements and principles of design. Students will have the opportunity to experiment with many materials and will be asked to use their imaginations, be creative and original. All projects are graded with a set of criteria and in addition will have standard requirements for craftsmanship, neatness, originality and control of the media. 
This beginning level studio course is intended to develop the student’s personal approach to problem solving while exploring basic principles of design. An assortment of media will be used to create two and three dimensional art. Foundations of Design are also a prerequisite for many of the art other courses. This class also fulfills a ½ credit towards the Fine Art requirement for graduation.
